Handcrafted. Enduring. Unmistakably Marge Carson

The Art of Craftsmanship

Every Marge Carson piece is made to order in North America, for the room it is going into. Since 1947 each design has begun as a drawing, and our artisans build, upholster and finish every piece by hand: in your choice of more than 750 fabrics, leathers and trims, or your own fabric, and in one of 50 finishes applied by hand.

From Vision to Form

Each design begins as a pencil drawing. Every curve and proportion is worked out on paper before a frame is cut.
Because nothing is made until it is ordered, a piece can be built to the size your room needs, rather than the size a factory prefers.

Materials of Distinction

More than 750 fabrics, leathers and trims, and 50 finishes, chosen as much for how they feel and wear as for how they look. If you have already found the right fabric, we will upholster your piece in it: see Customer's Own Material.

The Human Touch

Carving, upholstery and finishing are done by hand. Machines may measure, but only a skilled hand can judge the tension in a stitch or the balance of a carved edge.
That is what gives each piece its warmth and its unmistakable Marge Carson character.

Finishing as an Art

Each of our 50 finishes is applied by hand, one layer at a time, to build depth, texture and tone.
Whether gold, silver or wood grain, each takes the light differently as the day changes.

Built by Hand, at the Bench

Every frame is built and carved by hand at the bench, one piece at a time, before it is upholstered and finished.
Because each frame is made for the piece that was ordered, it can be built to the size your room needs.
