First Impressions Cast in Black Lacquer and Gold

The Lorenzo Entry Table is designed for exactly this moment — the threshold between the outside world and the curated interior. Its sculptural pedestal features a dramatic Y-shaped support in black lacquer, the curves of which recall Art Deco furnishings of the 1920s, while gold leaf tips and edge treatments catch the light filtering through the ornate iron doorway behind it. The shaped top, also in black lacquer with a gold leaf border, is perfectly scaled at 40 inches square to hold a crystal vase of peonies without overwhelming the foyer's proportions.

The table's pedestal base is constructed from solid hardwood, hand-shaped and finished in multiple coats of lacquer that are wet-sanded between applications to achieve a piano-like depth. The gold leaf accents are applied by hand using traditional gilding techniques — a time-intensive process that creates the subtle irregularities and warmth that machine application cannot replicate. The stepped base adds visual weight and stability, its geometric profile grounding the more fluid curves above.
